Pilates can be considered ¨The art and science of the coordinated development of body, mind and spirit hrough a series of natural movements carried out under the strict control of the will¨ J.H. Pilates
The Pilates Method, originally called ‘Contrology’ by its creator Joseph Humbertus Pilates, is a system of movements made with control and precision in a fluid way, to the rhythm of breathing. Our mind must control the movements of our body and not the other way around. We must focus on the quality of the movement and not on the quantity in order to carry out a safer and more effective program.
It is based on 6 principles that we see reflected in each exercise of this system which are: Breathing, Concentration, Center, Control, Flow of movement and Accuracy.
It is a body education where you work from the deepest musculature to the most superficial. That is why, taking into consideration the aforementioned, the beginning of his practice is perfect at any age, when you are young, it serves as prevention and self-knowledge of our body; as adults to maintain muscle balance, maintaining our strengths and improving our weaknesses; as elder to lengthen and maintain our quality of life, allowing us to keep moving more effectively.
Its continuous practice generates great benefits, taking as a base the center of the body (Core), working all the muscles from this firm and strong center, with adequate breathing and correct posture. Some of the points of view that are observed in its practitioners are:
• Helps initiate movements from a stronger and organized center.
• Improves proprioception and balance.
• Does not generate excess muscle mass.
• Generates flexibility.
• The movement becomes more fluid.
• Eliminates bad movement habits.
